Passion
Kim Sou is a Korean artist known for his style, Harmonism, which refers to the coexistence of figuration and abstraction. The Korean War sparked his interest in the world of inscape and subjectivity. Additionally, he drew influence from Japan, France, and the United States, actively incorporating emerging art styles from these regions.
Harmonism entails arranging and combining the contrasting forms of figurative and abstract art, embodying the concepts of Yin and Yang, objectivity and subjectivity, and the East and the West. Kim's work is also characterized by recurring subjects such as the nude female body, decorative compositions of colorful hues and mosaics, and the incorporation of Korean themes such as Buddhist dance and statues.
The Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art has curated an exhibition titled 'Passion' featuring a wide range of Kim Sou's works including paintings, drawings, and artifacts.
